Biography

Baritone David Scott studied singing with Emmanuel Lawler in the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama graduating with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Music Degree and an MPhil in Music.

He recently released his first solo album 'Time to Reflect' which was described as '12 Beautiful Songs' by Michael Daly of Phoenix FM. He is also a soloist on the CD Beethoven's Irish songs Revisited and is the featured soloist on RTÉ Lyric FM's documentary 'WB Yeats: Words for Music Perhaps.'

He is in constant demand as a recitalist and performer and has sung at various festivals around Ireland, including the Boyle Arts Festival, Tuam Arts FestivalRussian Festival of Culture and the Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival.

His opera roles include Jupiter in 'Orpheus in the Underworld', Aeneas in 'Dido and Aeneas,' Lord Davenaught in 'Der Vampyr' Don Inigo Gomez in 'L'Heure Espagnol,' Antonio in 'The Marriage of Figaro,' and Second Priest in 'The Magic Flute.' He also has sung various contemporary roles, including 'Leopold Bloom' in Eric Sweeney's 'Ulysses' and Joseph Beuys in Andrew Synott's 'Breakdown' for which he received an OBA nomination. He also sang in Colm O Foghlu’s new Irish language operas 'Íosagáin' and 'Eoghainín na nÉan'

His solo Oratorio performances include the Baritone Solos of Fauré's 'Requiem,' Duruflé's 'Requiem,' Schubert's 'Mass in G' and Orff's 'Carmina Burana,' and the Bass Solos of Handel's 'Messiah' and 'Israel in Egypt,' Mozart's 'Coronation Mass in D,' Britten's 'Rejoice in the Lamb' and Charpentier's 'Messe de Minuit.'

 

David is a Feis Ceoil gold medal winner, and has won the ‘Corn MacEoghan’, ‘Trófaí Mháirtín Uí Dhiomsaígh’ and Charles Wilson Cup for opera, and gave a solo recital in the Feis Ceoil prizewinners platform series. In DIT Vocal Competitions has won The Messiah Cup for oratorio, Leo Maguire Trophy and gold medal for French song.
